Maroon Bells

On Thursday, Perry and I took Caileag and hiked up to Maroon Bells, one of the more well known scenic hikes in Aspen. It was a cool crisp day and totally worth dragging Caileag with us. It had recently rained and was pretty muddy, but the three of us had a blast. There were a bunch of people admiring the "Bells" as well, and Dad I totally regret us not driving up there. You would have loved it. To get there, you must drive by a pay station and I was fully ready to pay the $10 fee, but, upon further inspection, realized it was free for the remainder of fall.

Perry also got to experience Caileag's wrath and took the responsibility of tying himself into the waist leash.

Fortunately, Cece has a job, unfortunately, she did not get to go hiking with us. I said we would for sure be back there before full on winter hits!

Rain Rain Go Away....!

Arriving on Monday, Perry has since been stuck inside because of the freezing rain and cooking up a storm in our kitchen. So far, we have had gourmet chili, delicious scrambled eggs, and soon, Tex Mex Tacos! I finally drug him out of the house, away from the kitchen, and we took a scenic drive to Snowmass, and other surrounding areas, where it was actually snowing and not raining.

It doesn't look like the rain is going to let up anytime soon, so we are making our second trip to Clark's Market for more cooking ingredients. I hope everyone is having a great week!! Happy Hump Day. If it is raining where you are, which, I am assuming it is after reading friends Facebook status, try these jigsaw puzzles from National Geographic when stuck indoors.

Our Horoscope for the day!

We have become regular readers of the Aspen Times and enjoy checking our horoscopes in the paper. KA and I are both the sign of Cancer and think it usually fits us perfectly!?
We especially like our horoscope for today and think it is a great sign for us here in Aspen!!!

Cancer Horoscope for 10/20/09- "Some people peak early in life. Aren't you glad you're not one of them? It's taken a while, but your bloom is coming on. Get ready for some well-deserved success."

Smuggler Mine

Kelly Ann, Caileag, and I decided to do a hike to the top of Smuggler Mine. It was a little harder than I expected...not going to lie I felt a little out of shape!? It was 45 minutes...up hill the ENTIRE time!
But once we made it to the top the views were totally worth it!!

Adventures of Walking Caileag

So, as you know we have had some issues walking our beloved roomie dog! Well worry no longer...the hands free dog leash has saved our lives!!

Guest Blog by Kaylee Howell: Foliage and Fall in Aspen

I have been in Aspen for the past five days visiting Cece and Kelly Ann. The weather has been amazing and the Aspen's are looking gorgeous. I have really enjoyed my time here with the girls. I am sad to be leaving today. I got to experience a little bit of their job hunting and I think I have been a good luck charm. We have been going to really fun dinners. Friday night, I got to experience Bad Billy's. It was a happenin place to be with a great band where I danced the night away. We have walked all around the town and seen everything Aspen has to offer, great people, great places, great weather, and great foliage. Here are some of the highlights of the trip.

Twilight

So as most of you know Kelly Ann is OBSESSED with Twilight! As I know many people are. I on the other hand have been quoted as saying "I refuse to jump on the Twilight/vampire train!" (unless of course if Sarah Michelle Gellar comes back as Buffy and we could intertwine Twilight and some Vampire Slayer action...Rob Pattinson would of course be off limits...HOTTEST VAMPIRE EVER!?)
I though might have to succumb to Twilight fever because there is no denying that is taking over the world and my life...I came home to the APT the other day to find KA had re-decorated place with twilight posters...the fridge, by the front door, above the bed, etc.

So I am going to join the cult phenomenon and start reading...and I must hurry because New Moon comes out November 20th and KA has informed me ready or not we will be seeing the midnight opening show! I will let you know...if I cross over to the dark side!

Dr. Dog

Cece is now famous and has officially met her DREAM man: Jeffery Lewis (pictured above) and his Creeping Brains!!! We decided to go to Belly Up for the Dr. Dog concert to make friends and see the show, but didn't realize that in the process we would fall upon Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard Bank. I had listened to Dr. Dog, but had never had much interest, but thought it would be a fun show to see. Not knowing what Dr. Dog would even look like, I mistook Dr. Dog for the opening act JL. After three cartoon/animated overhead shows, I realized this was not the band I was looking for, just the opening act. Jeffrey Lewis and his Creeping Brains have a political/freak show side to them that they like to advertise during their acts. Weird, but worth seeing for the laughs. Dr. Dog was amazing and especially because the show was not super packed, it felt like our own private concert. Hopefully, we will see more shows there in the future.

Aspen Job Fair

One word: Scary!! Cece and I arrive at the job fair in the dumping snow dressed to impress. Driving there, we are guessing that since it is "off season" no one will be there, everyone will be wanting to hire us the second we walk in, etc. Not the case. As we pull into the parking lot, we notice there are no parking places and we are probably the only two girls there with heels on. One guy walking in is sucking down his cig as fast as he can before he goes and interviews. As we walk in the door, we realize every other unemployed person is at the job fair as well. The place is a madhouse. Everyone applying from the graveyard snowmaking shift to cute cocktail servers are there. Cece and I get in our respective lines and prepare to be employed on the spot. Its been a week and we are still waiting......

After the fair, we go to J bar at Hotel Jerome for the "best bloody mary in the US." Thanks Coco!! Absolutely delic! After our rough day job hunting, we stay at the bar and wait for my dad and Sam to arrive from Fort Worth on their way to Montana. While waiting, we make our first and only friend, Scott, at the J Bar. He seems nice and at least gives us a "locals" discount.

Finally, my dad arrives with a surprise, my mom in tow! We drop Sam off at our apt with devil dog (poor girl) and go to an amazing dinner at L'Hostaria, an Italian restaurant in downtown Aspen. The gnocchi was amazing!!

Considering Cece and I had been drinking for the majority of the afternoon, we went home, tucked the dogs in, and, of course, attempted to read our books.

The Hike

Waking up to our first gorgeous day in Aspen, Cece and I decide to go on a walk to explore with Caileag. Little did we know, she's insane. Once we get her on the leash and out the door onto the Rio Grande Path, we realize that Caileag is actually going to walk us. As she struggles against the leash, I decide to jog for a second to hopefully calm her down. Nothing works. We finally let her off and she decides to take us on the "nature trail". Sounds nice, but its not. I can't decide which is worse: having her off the lease and having to scream her name every 5 seconds to get her to come back or having her on the leash dragging me over rocks and a narrow cliff alongside the river at an alarming speed.

She finally leads us back to our original trail and we make our way home. Cece and I are both completely wiped out by now, after realizing we had been gone 2.5 hours "walking" with the Caileag.

Welcome to Aspen

Arrival:
After crossing the Continental Divide via Independence Pass in the 27 degree snowy weather, we had thought we had arrived safely into Aspen... Once we have found the apartment, Cece and I excitedly open the door to find Caileag (Kaylee), our new roomie, on the couch. The scenario seems fine, until Caileag lunges off the couch while snarling and growling and traps Cece and I in the bathroom. For the next 30 minutes, we debate on how to get out since every time we slightly open the door, her head is around the corner about to explode with anger for these intruders into her domain.
Cece, Caesar's new apprentice, opens the door armed with aerosol air freshener and a plunger as a brace. She creeps past the dog, grabs her leash, and miraculously, Caileag is happy as a clam.
